Welcome to the Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits IIS

As the largest institute within the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, we have been conducting research for over 30 years in diverse fields such as artificial intelligence, microelectronics, sensor systems, data acquisition, signal processing, and signal transmission. Talented individuals from various engineering and natural science disciplines will find a wide range of exciting research topics under one roof. A few highlights that reflect our innovative strength include neuromorphic computing, 5G/6G mobile communication technologies, generative AI in speech and signal processing, and X-ray imaging for e-mobility. And that’s just the beginning! What sustainable solution will you find with us?

Are you fascinated by satellite navigation and the development of embedded system software? Do you want to shape the future of secure GNSS in national and international research projects?

Well, this (and the ideal environment for it) is precisely what we are offering you!

Be part of change

The department »Satellite Based Positioning Systems (SLS)« carries out research in reliable time and position determination using global satellite navigation systems (GNSS) such as the European Galileo. Applications range from precise machine controls to military applications. This involves creating concepts and models and implementing them in digital circuits for FPGA/ASIC. To address these issues in the context of research and industrial contract projects, we are aiming to fill this vacancy as soon as possible.

  • Defend positioning systems against modern threats: You research and develop advanced anti-jamming and anti-spoofing solutions for GNSS systems, enhancing their resilience against attacks.
  • Drive secure navigation technologies forward: You contribute to the design, development, documentation, and delivery of software and firmware for secure GNSS platforms.
  • Enable robust embedded system integration: You integrate system and software components into embedded System-on-Chip (SoC) architectures using FPGA and ASIC technologies.

What you contribute

  • A degree in electrical engineering, computer science, robotics, or equivalent education.
  • EU citizenship and a willingness to obtain security clearance are required to participate in all types of projects.
  • Expertise in embedded software development, including proficiency in C/C++ programming, debugging, testing, and continuous integration.
  • Preferably: experience with version control systems (e.g. Git), scripting languages (e.g. Python), and hardware description languages (e.g. VHDL / Verilog).
  • Beneficial: Familiarity with GNU/Linux environments, knowledge of cryptography and Common Criteria, and a background in signal processing and radio communications.

What we offer

  • An exciting role: We offer a diverse and challenging field of work in an international environment, oriented toward state-of-the-art research and technology.
  • Room for creativity: Projects with strong practical components motivate our employees to drive innovation.
  • Our colleagues enjoy our positive work culture: We are open-minded, we help and trust each other.
  • Top of the line infrastructure at your workplace: With our state-of-the-art technologies, we develop solutions to meet the challenges of today and tomorrow.
  • We value personal contact: With our structured onboarding process, you will quickly become familiar with our institute and be able to extend your network successfully.
  • We take your needs seriously: We support your work-life balance by offering flexible working hours and hybrid work.
  • Your goals and interests are important to us: We offer ongoing professional and personal seminars, coaching, and language classes.
  • We offer complimentary parking spaces, charging stations for electric cars, covered bicycle parking, and showers at the institute.

The weekly working time is 39 hours. The position can also be filled part-time, but as close to full-time as possible. The position is initially limited to 2 years with the aim to extend it subsequently. Appointment, remuneration and social security benefits based on the public-sector collective wage agreement (TVöD).

We value and promote the diversity of our employees' skills and therefore welcome all applications - regardless of age, gender, nationality, ethnic and social origin, religion, ideology, disability, sexual orientation and identity. Severely disabled persons are given preference in the event of equal suitability.
