Our international team at Fraunhofer IIS is shaping the future of IoT by developing cutting‑edge wireless data transmission technologies such as mioty®, a leading Low Power Wide Area Network (LPWAN) standard. mioty® is deployed across smart metering, smart cities, industrial IoT, logistics and environmental.
As Business Development Manager EMEA, you will be based at Fraunhofer IIS in Nuremberg and co-develop and execute our regional commercial activities across Europe, the Middle East & African regions. You will coordinate the market activities and drive strategic growth with local operators, integrators, device makers, and ecosystem partners. In addition, you will collaborate closely with the Field Application Engineer to ensure successful pilot projects, customer onboarding, and technical enablement in the region.

  • Go-to-Market Leadership: You co-develop and execute the EMEA go to market strategy for mioty®, aligned with Fraunhofer IIS leadership and the global business strategy.
  • Market Initiative: You drive business development activities across key EMEA markets and the expansion of the mioty® ecosystem.
  • Strategic Partnerships: You identify, qualify and develop strategic partnerships with utilities, telecom operators, system integrators, device manufacturers, and public sector stakeholders. With the regional IoT ecosystem.
  • Deal Structuring: You lead opportunity identification, qualification and deal shaping, including commercial structuring, pricing models, proposal development, and contract negotiations.
  • Technical Delivery & Customer Success: You work closely with the Field Application Engineering to ensure commercial technical alignment, successful pilot projects, customer onboarding and post sales handover.
  • Market Intelligence and Strategic Insights: You Monitor market and competitive developments and translate insights into actionable recommendations for product and business strategy.
  • Thought Leadership: You represent Fraunhofer IIS and mioty® at industry events and trade fairs across EMEA.
  • Performance Tracking: You provide structured reporting and forecasting, including pipeline transparency.

What you bring to the table

  • University degree in Business, Engineering, Telecommunications, Computer Science or a related field.
  • Experience in business development, technical sales or strategic partnerships, preferably in IoT in the field of Smart Metering and -Cities, connectivity, telecommunications or industrial automation. 
  • Strong understanding of IoT technologies and wireless ecosystems, ideally LPWAN (e.g. mioty®, LoRaWAN, NB‑IoT or comparable protocols).
  • Proven ability to manage complex, multi‑stakeholder sales cycles, including public‑sector organizations and enterprise customers.
  • Strategic and entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to structure markets, prioritize opportunities and drive long‑term value creation.
  • Experience working in international and cross‑cultural environments within the EMEA region.
  • Willingness to travel across EMEA (approx. 20–30%).
  • Fluent English and German required; additional European or regional languages are a plus.

The position is initially limited to 2 years with the aim to extend it subsequently. The weekly working time is 39 hours.
