Here's how you will make a difference

In the department »HFS & SatCom Systems« at the Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits IIS, we are developing a satellite constellation simulator to design, analyze and optimize future satellite networks. This simulator enables system-level performance evaluation, coverage analysis, link budget calculations and more for advanced satellite communication scenarios. It features a comprehensive GUI frontend that integrates database connections, provides interactive user guidance, parameter configuration, and visualization of simulation workflows and results. As part of our team, you will contribute to the development and testing of this cutting-edge tool

  • Simulation & Development: You develop and implement simulation modules for satellite constellation analysis in Python.
  • Interface Design: You design and test web-app GUI components of the simulator.
  • Validation & Testing: You perform systematic user testing and validation of simulation results.
  • Documentation & Communication: You support documentation and presentation of results.

What you bring to the table

  • You are currently studying electrical engineering, information technology, communication engineering, computer science aerospace engineering, or a similar field
  • You are motivated and interested in satellite constellations
  • You are proficient in Python
  • You have knowledge and practical experience with version control systems, such as Git
  • You have experience or interest in GUI design and testing 
  • You have basic knowledge in signal processing and communication systems

We will agree your start date and weekly working hours with you individually (as a working student 10 to 20 hours per week or for an internship at least three months). You can reduce your hours before exams and increase them during semester breaks. You can set your working days flexibly. After your studies, there are attractive opportunities to join the institute on a full-time or part-time basis. You can flexibly determine the working days of your fixed-term employment contract.
