With 76 institutes across Germany, over 32,000 employees from engineering, science, administration, and IT work together to develop pioneering technologies for the benefit of the economy and society. At Fraunhofer, people don’t just work — they aim to make a difference. For themselves, for all of us, and for the markets of today and tomorrow.

Welcome to the Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits IIS, headquartered in Erlangen! As the largest institute within the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, we have been conducting research for over 30 years in diverse fields such as artificial intelligence, microelectronics, sensor systems, data acquisition, signal processing, and signal transmission. Talented individuals from various engineering and natural science disciplines will find a wide range of exciting research topics under one roof. A few highlights that reflect our innovative strength include neuromorphic computing, 5G/6G mobile communication technologies, generative AI in speech and signal processing, and X-ray imaging for e-mobility. And that’s just the beginning!

In the Audio and Media Technologies division, we’ve been shaping global standards and technologies in the audio and film industry for over 30 years. From the invention of MP3 to the co-development of AAC and the Digital Cinema Initiative test plan, the technologies we develop in Erlangen can be found in nearly every piece of modern entertainment electronics.

  • Finally, you’ll contribute your ideas to standardization efforts to ensure the best possible experience for end users.

What you bring to the table

  • A completed degree or doctorate in computer science, electrical engineering, or a comparable field
  • Strong knowledge of web technologies (JavaScript, TypeScript, webpack, Node.js, etc.)
Solid skills in developing native code (C/C++, Rust) and experience with DevOps tools (Git, Docker, Kubernetes, GitLab CI)
  • Ideally, initial experience with CODECs
  • Interest in audio technologies and a willingness to dive into new topics
  • Excellent communication skills (business fluent) in both spoken and written German and English

This position is also open to motivated early-career professionals with relevant experience from internships, academic projects, or final theses.

What you can expect

  • A challenging and meaningful role at a global market leader in a cutting-edge industry
  • Dedicated colleagues with deep technical expertise in a collaborative and personal work environment
  • A structured onboarding process to help you settle in and expand your network

  • Ongoing professional development through technical and personal training, coaching, and language courses
  • Support for achieving work-life balance, including flexible hours and hybrid work options
  • Equal opportunities and specific programs like Fraunhofer TALENTA, which supports the careers of women in science
  • Free parking, EV charging stations, covered bike racks, and showers on-site
  • A subsidized Deutschlandticket, with bus stops directly in front of the institute
  • Access to our corporate health management program, including offers like yoga classes, running groups, and relaxation seminars
