Welcome to the Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits IIS in Nuremberg! Your curiosity leads you to the group »Quantum Compilation«, which is part of the »Machine Intelligence« department. Our team members have diverse academic backgrounds in computer science, engineering, and physics. Since 2019, our group has delved into cutting-edge topics within the realm of quantum computing (including quantum machine learning, machine learning for quantum compilation, error correction, and quantum circuit cutting).

Here you drive change! Join us in an exciting role where you will

  • Dive deeply into new technical subjects and conduct application-oriented research on quantum algorithms
  • Explore machine learning-based methods for the optimized use of quantum computers
  • Participate in collaborative projects with different industry and research institutions
  • Manage project assignments and supervise students
  • Disseminate research results through scientific publications, lectures, and outreach activities aimed at the general public (e.g., events, trade fairs)

What you bring to the table

  • A degree (preferably with a Ph.D.) in physics, mathematics, or theory-focused computer science
  • Research experience, scientific expertise, and a background in quantum computing
  • Ideally: Experience in compilation, project management, machine learning, and error-correction methods
  • Strong coding skills in Python
  • Experience in writing scientific proposals
  • The ability (or a strong desire to develop the ability) to create professional presentations for consortium meetings
  • Fluency in English, additional German skills are a plus

The position is initially limited to 2 years with the aim to extend it subsequently. The weekly working time is 39 hours. The position can also be filled on a part-time basis with a preference, however, to have it filled as close to a full-time position as possible.
