The Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft (www.fraunhofer.en) currently operates 76 institutes and research facilities in Germany and is the world's leading organization for application-oriented research. Around 32,000 employees work on the annual research volume of 3.4 billion euros.
In the »Integrated Sensor Systems« department at the Fraunhofer-Institute for Integrated Circuits IIS, we work on a wide range of sensor technologies for a wide variety of applications. For example, we are developing multispectral image sensors that are used in agriculture to detect weeds. This enables selective control and saves on pesticides. Our magnetic field sensors are used in washing machines, for example, to detect imbalances. This saves water and detergent. Our innovative wide-bandgap semiconductor sensors enable very sensitive environmental sensors for measuring air quality.
