Within the Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits IIS, our group »Audio and Media Technologies« in Erlangen, Germany, has been making its mark on media digitalization for over 30 years, developing pioneering standards such as MP3, AAC, xHE AAC, and EVS. Motivated by this success, we aim to transfer this know-how to solve new challenges in video coding for better user experiences and higher system efficiency.

What you will do

  • You analyze deep learning models to identify areas for algorithmic and architectural improvements
  • You stay up-to-date with the latest research to spot innovative deep learning techniques that could enhance system performance
  • You collaborate with team members to evaluate different coding strategies and select the most promising approaches for project goals
  • You contribute to the implementation of selected coding approaches, ensuring efficient integration with existing systems

What you bring to the table

  • You are currently studying computer science, engineering sciences, media technologies or a related field
  • You are experienced in Python, PyTorch and C/C++
  • You are willing to learn new technologies and tools
  • You have knowledge in machine learning or signal processing
  • You are interested in video coding algorithms

Weekly working hours are determined by agreement. You can start from now on (as a student assistant from 10 to 20 hours a week or as an intern for a period of at least three months ). You can reduce your hours before exams and increase them during semester breaks. You can flexibly determine the working days. After your studies, you have the option of working with us full or part time.
