Intelligent components can detect and evaluate changes in the environment or in the system itself and adapt to them independently. As a partner of industry, Fraunhofer IIS/EAS develops key technologies for adaptive systems with about 110 employees at the Dresden site and offers innovative technologies and robust solutions.

In an interdisciplinary team of physicists, nanoelectronics specialists and hardware/software programmers, you contribute to pushing current quantum communication systems towards higher performance and stability. These systems employ advanced opto-electronic devices to manipulate single photons and exchange a secure key. Hardware-software co-implementation of novel key exchange protocols will be part of the challenging teamwork. It opens the opportunity to directly participate in transferring quantum technology into practical applications.

What you do with us 

  • Supervision in particular maintenance & expansion of QKD infrastructure, particularly of photon pair sources, detectors and analysis optics, as well as evaluation of measurement data
  • Project-related collaboration with national and international research and industry partners
  • Publication of research results at conferences, in journals and in project reports, as well as preparation of research proposals
  • Supporting the team in industry acquisition, in particular networking, fostering and cultivation of business relationships

What you bring with you

  • Successfully completed university studies (Master’s degree or higher) in the field of physics, electrical engineering or a related field of study
  • Experience in setting up, performing and evaluating optics experiments
  • Background in opto-electronics systems and software control of optical systems
  • Experience in quantum optics / quantum communication / optical quantum computing advantageous
  • Motivation to take responsibility, drive a topic within an interdisciplinary team and to discuss applications and requirements with industrial partners
  • Strong interest in dissemination activities (publications, presentations, project acquisition, industrial fairs)

Employment, compensation and benefits are based on the collective bargaining agreement for the public sector (TVöD). In addition, Fraunhofer may grant performance and success-based variable compensation components.
