The »DEAL« group of the Fraunhofer IIS has a strong focus on Machine Learning (ML) and its applications. We specifically focus on reducing the high manual configuration effort associated with ML development (Automated Learning) and the high cost of annotating sufficient data for ML development (Data Efficiency).

What you will do

  • You will mainly collaborate with us on research projects in AutoML - usually with the goal of a publication. The first project focuses on interactive and explainable AutoML, interactive data labelling and model monitoring for object detection and time series anomaly detection
  • You benchmark existing AutoML frameworks and work with us on extending them by implementing methods that allow interactive user input and methods that explain and visualize the AutoML process
  • You conduct and summarize research on different topics related to AutoML and possibly interactive labelling
  • You perform classical data science tasks such as data exploration, data cleaning, data analysis and visualization
  • You support us in practical Machine Learning industry projects and administrative tasks

What you bring to the table

  • You are currently studying computer science, mathematics, data science or a related field
  • You have experience in Python (especially ML frameworks like PyTorch, sklearn, etc.)
  • You have worked with image data and/or time series data before
  • You have a good understanding of concepts in ML and Statistics
  • You are interested in current ML research, AutoML and explainable ML
  • You show initiative and an independent way of working
  • You have excellent English skills or excellent German skills and solid English skills
  • Optional: You have worked with R before

Weekly working hours are determined by agreement. You can start from now on (as a student assistant up to 20 hours a week). You can reduce your hours before exams and increase them during semester breaks. You can flexibly determine the working days. After your studies, you have the option of working with us full or part time.
