The Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft (www.fraunhofer.de) currently operates 76 institutes and research facilities in Germany and is the world's leading organization for application-oriented research. Around 30,800 employees work on the annual research volume of 3 billion euros.

In the »Integrated Sensor Systems« department at the Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits IIS, we work on a wide range of sensor technologies for a wide variety applications. For example, we are developing multispectral image sensors that can be used in agriculture to detect weeds. This enables selective pest control and saves on pesticides. Our magnetic field sensors are used, in washing machines, for example, to detect imbalances. In this way, they ensure that water and detergents are saved. Our innovative wide-bandgap semiconductor sensors enable highly sensitive environmental sensors for measuring air quality.

Do you have experience in analog circuit design and would like to apply your knowledge to innovative wide-bandgap semiconductors?

Do you see potential in integrated circuits beyond the constant reduction in feature sizes and are you interested to work with other semiconductors besides silicon?

Then have a look at our job offer!

What you will do

Your research and development activities focus on the design of analog circuits on CMOS and wide-bandgap semiconductors such as GaN or AlGaN/GaN and, in particular, their combination.

You will develop circuits for sensor signal processing and partition them between GaN and CMOS using modern heterointegration methods. In addition, you will simulate and layout your circuits using the design kits of commercial and experimental manufacturing processes. You keep up to date with the state of the art and advance it through your contributions. Furthermore, you will support your colleagues in the characterization of circuits and transfer to applications.

What you bring to the table

  • University degree in electrical engineering, physics, or a comparable field of study
  • Profound knowledge of analog circuit design - discrete or integrated
  • Experience in working with simulation and layout tools
  • High degree of independence and personal responsibility
  • Good command of written and spoken English and German

Ideally:

  • Several years of professional experience in the field
  • Structured and team-oriented way of working

What you can expect

Fraunhofer is not only the largest organization for applied research in Europe, but also a top rated employer. But why is that?

  • Fraunhofer is not only the largest organization for application-oriented research in Europe, Fraunhofer IIS is also one of Europe's leading IC design facilities.
  • We work with state-of-the-art equipment in a highly innovative key industry. You benefit from a unique network of experts and partners in research and industry.
  • You will have the opportunity to contribute your creativity to pioneering research projects as well as making a significant contribution to the development of new series products in industrial projects.
  • We take your needs seriously: we support the best possible work-life balance through flexible working hours and hybrid working.
  • Your goals and interests are important to us: we regularly support you with professional and personal seminars, coaching and language courses.
  • We enable equal opportunities: Our female scientists are supported for example by the "Fraunhofer TALENTA" career program.

The position is initially limited to 2 years with the aim to extend it subsequently. The weekly working time is 39 hours. The position can also be filled on a part-time basis with a preference, however, to have it filled as close to a full-time position as possible.

We value and promote the diversity of our employees' skills and therefore welcome all applications - regardless of age, gender, nationality, ethnic and social origin, religion, ideology, disability, sexual orientation and identity. Appointment, remuneration and social security benefits based on the public-sector collective wage agreement (TVöD).
