You are excited by reinforcement learning and quantum computing? You want to drive technological innovation with a team of dedicated researchers?

Then take a look at our job offer!

In our group »Self-Learning Systems« at the Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits IIS we combine expertise in various advanced machine learning topics. One of our research goals is to provide robust and safe algorithmic solutions for control and decision-making tasks for systems that operate in complex and dynamic environments.

Recent advancements in the development of quantum computing hardware have given rise to a new breed of quantum computing software that supports a scalable and resource-efficient deployment of quantum algorithms. To address this demand, we aim to leverage state-of-the-art reinforcement learning techniques, focusing on the development of solutions for quantum computing middleware. Through our research, we contribute to quantum computing initiatives such as the Munich Quantum Valley and the Fraunhofer Competence Network »Quantum Computing«.

What you will do

  • In this exciting position, you'll employ state-of-the-art machine learning methods and develop AI-based solutions for quantum computing, including, but not limited to compilation, circuit knitting, and error correction.
  • Together with industry partners and other research institutions, you'll tackle collaborative projects.
  • One of your tasks will be to manage project assignments or supervise interns.
  • You will promote the results of your research through scientific publications, lectures, and other public outreach activities (e.g., events, trade fairs, etc.).

What you bring to the table

  • A master's degree in computer science, physics, mathematics, or a related field – a Ph.D. is a huge asset
  • Experience in machine learning and deep neural networks
  • Knowledge in deep reinforcement learning
  • Programming experience in Python
  • Fluency in spoken and written English
  • First contact with quantum computing is an advantage

This position opens up many exciting opportunities and is also suitable for entry-level candidates with a Master's degree and relevant experience from internships, undergraduate research, or final theses.
